Privacy policy

Last updated 13 October 2026. Applies to railinfo.uk and the railinfo apps for Android and iOS, which show the same website.

The short version

You can use everything on railinfo without an account, and in that case we keep nothing that identifies you beyond ordinary server logs and anonymous usage statistics. If you sign in, we store your email address and the stations and routes you save, so we can send the alerts you asked for. You can delete your account, and everything with it, yourself at any time. We do not sell or share personal data with anyone for advertising; there are no adverts.

What we store, and why

  • If you sign in: your email address, the date you joined, your favourite stations and routes, your alert preferences, a record of which alerts we have sent you, and the one-time sign-in codes we email you (kept for a week). Signing in needs no password.
  • On your device only: your recent searches and recently picked stations, so the forms can offer them again. These live in your browser or app storage, never reach our servers, and are cleared when you clear site data.
  • Server logs: the IP address, requested page and browser identifier for each request, kept briefly for security and to keep the service running (for example rate limiting).
  • Usage statistics: we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are used. Google sets its own cookies for this; see Google's privacy policy. We do not use the data for advertising.

Who else receives data

  • Mailgun delivers our sign-in codes and alert emails, so it processes your email address and the alert text.
  • Cloudflare sits in front of the site and sees requests, as any network provider does.
  • OpenFreeMap serves the map tiles on the live map; your browser requests them directly, so it sees your IP address.
  • Google receives the usage statistics described above.

The train, station and disruption information itself comes from Network Rail, National Rail (Darwin), the Rail Data Marketplace and Transport for London. None of it contains anything about you.

How long we keep it

Account data stays until you delete the account. Sign-in codes expire after an hour and are purged after a week. Records of sent alerts are purged after 90 days. Server logs are rotated within weeks.

Deleting your data

Go to Account and choose Delete my account. This removes your email address, favourites, alert settings and alert history immediately. Or email [email protected] from the address you signed in with and we will do it for you.

The mobile apps

The Android and iOS apps are the website in a native shell. They request no permissions, do not access your location, contacts or photos, and store nothing beyond what the website stores. Push notifications are not available yet; if they are added, you will be asked to turn them on and can turn them off again in the app's settings.

Contact and changes

railinfo is run as an independent service in the United Kingdom and is not affiliated with National Rail or Network Rail. Questions about this policy: [email protected]. If the policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
